Why South Africa?

South Africa is no exception. SIM considers it a great privilege and a great responsibility to be Serving In Mission in South Africa. To accomplish our mission, SIM brings together many different missionaries from many different places, with many different gifts — but one unified purpose.
Today, as it has been doing for more than 120 years, SIM is at work throughout South Africa, joining hands with the Church, to see the Gospel transforming lives in the powerful name of Jesus Christ.
SIM engages in a wide range of ministries throughout the country, both urban and rural, from Cape Town to Durban and many places in between. In fact, eleven different nationalities serve on the team from places as far away as Australia and America, South Korea and Taiwan, England and Brazil — but also from places as close as Port Elizabeth and Umzinto.

Ministry Areas
From evangelism to administration, every gift has a role in SIM's holistic approach to mission in South Africa.
Sharing the Gospel with atheists, animists, Hindus and Muslims, Zulus, Chinese and Pakistanis — in communities throughout South Africa where Christ is least known.
Regular Bible classes in townships, small group Bible studies, local church support, and teaching at Union Bible College and seminaries across the region.
Serving in hospitals, clinics, and orphanages — particularly at Mseleni in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where medical care, witnessing, and church involvement go hand-in-hand.
Ministries to the growing number of children — often among the most vulnerable and the most open to the gospel — across both urban and rural South Africa.
Reaching the growing numbers of refugees from sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, and foreign workers in the mining industry, who are often neglected but deeply valued by God.
Starting, nurturing, and equipping local churches to be the expression of Christ in their communities — and to reach out with cross-cultural missionary vision.
Equipping pastors and lay leaders through formal and informal training — including the role of librarian at Union Bible College as an expression of this ministry.
Those called to ministries of leadership and administration play an essential supporting role — sustaining the team that serves on the front lines of mission.
Supporting missionaries sacrificially, whether through prayer, finances, or practical care — a calling as important as any other in the body of Christ.
A Deep Love
A love for Christ, a love for His church, and a love for the communities of this country. That is why meeting both the spiritual and physical needs of people is so important to SIM's mission in South Africa.
Our ministry of evangelism would be incomplete without discipleship. Neither are enough apart from teaching and training. And none of these could be sustained without those who support the missionaries themselves.

Typically, a prospective worker contacts the nearest SIM office. That office then works with SIM offices around the world to find the best opportunity for the worker. SIM equips, supports, and encourages you throughout the journey.
